Morehead State OC Craig Mullins dies after cancer battle
Morehead State offensive coordinator Craig Mullins died Monday after a battle with cancer. Mullins was 45.
"We are deeply saddened by Craig's passing," Director of Athletics Brian Hutchinson said in a statement released by the school. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Craig was a terrific person, and we are grateful for the time he spent on Morehead State's football staff. He was liked and respected by everyone."
Mullins was at Morehead State for two seasons, but had more than 20 years of college coaching experience. He coached for 16 years at NAIA Georgetown College where he was also lettered from 1987-1990. During Mullins’ time with the program, Georgetown won two NAIA national championships (2000, 2001) and was a four-time national championship finalist (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002).
In 2004, Mullins was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.
Mullins is survived by his wife, Heidi, and two sons, Cade and Coy. Several friends from the college coaching community took to Twitter to express their condolences, including Eagles head coach Rob Tenyer, Middle Tennessee running backs coach Mike Polly and Wyoming running backs coach Mike Bath.
